Lottery Tax by State is a private publication. It is not run, endorsed or paid for by any state lottery, the Multi-State Lottery Association, the Mega Millions group, the Internal Revenue Service, a state tax department, a casino, a sportsbook, a ticket courier or a buyer of annuity payments. Powerball and Mega Millions are trademarks of their owners and are named only to describe the games.
General information, not advice
The pages describe federal and state tax rules and the calculators apply them to the figures you type. Nothing here is tax, legal or financial advice, an invitation to gamble or a recommendation to take a lump sum or an annuity. The lottery that pays the prize, the IRS and the state tax departments decide what is withheld and what is owed. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-MY-RESET.
Liability
Rules and rates are read on official texts and the calculators are tested before each release, but rules change and errors cannot be excluded. The publisher is not liable for a decision taken on the basis of the site alone. Errors can be reported through the contact page.
Intellectual property
Texts, design and code belong to the publisher; short quotations with a link are welcome. Statutes, IRS texts and state publications quoted here are public.
Embedding
The lottery tax calculator may be embedded for free with its credit line visible: see the embed page.
Personal data and cookies
What you type in the calculators stays in your browser. The site sets Google Analytics audience measurement cookies (_ga, _ga_0J5VR89060, 13 months at most), with no advertising; page stability is monitored with Microsoft Clarity, cookie-free. Details, legal basis and how to object: privacy policy and cookies page.
Reporting unlawful content
Write to contact@lotterytaxbystate.com with the page address.
Governing law
French law applies; failing an amicable settlement, the courts of France have jurisdiction. Updated: 2026-10-20.
Results are estimates built on the 2026 federal brackets, the state rates and lottery rules in force and the figures you type. This is not tax advice: your return, the lottery that pays the prize and the state tax departments decide. We sell no tickets and receive nothing from any lottery, casino, sportsbook, annuity buyer or adviser.
